Søvengård transformed an underutilized urban property in downtown Grand Rapids into a distinctive hospitality destination through the adaptive reuse of an existing building and the creative conversion of a shipping container into an outdoor biergarten bar. Via Design worked closely with chef and visionary Rick Muschiana to reflect the restaurant's approachable character while creating new opportunities for gathering, dining, and community connection.

The renovation reimagined the lower level of the existing building as the restaurant, while outdoor spaces extend the guest experience beyond its walls. A repurposed red shipping container anchors the biergarten, complemented by custom-designed seating, accessible pathways, and inviting transitional spaces connecting guests to the bocce court and gathering areas. A living green wall softens the site's perimeter, introducing a natural counterpoint to the surrounding urban context.
